U.S. Military Service Occupation Highlights
A U.S. military (armed services) personnel is typically a public service role. Every member of the U.S. armed services reports up a hierarchical structure to the President of the United States. There are five primary divisions of the U.S. armed services, namely Air Force, Marine, Navy, Army, and Coast Guard. Each division is a part of the Department of Defense, with the exception of the Coast Guard, which is a part of the Department of Homeland Security.
The primary functions
of a military personnel have traditionally been to protect and defend the nation and its citizenry from enemies and foreign organizational threats. However, in recent times the function of the U.S. military has greatly expanded to include peace keeping missions and quite often humanitarian missions, both of which involve saving lives and protecting property. The common
attributes of the many individuals (men and women) who choose to serve in the U.S. military, that earn them additional measures of respect, include
their sense of duty, honour and service; their high level of discipline and professionalism; and above all, their bravery. The nature of their work, which includes continuous preparedness, highly advanced training, frequent travel, exposure to extreme conditions, and combat activities places them in relatively high risk situations that can claim, and has
claimed, their lives in the line of duty.
